Registrations

The New Forest Pony Breeding & Cattle Society is the Breed Society and holders of the New Forest Pony Stud Book. They provide full passports for pure bred and part bred New Forest ponies in all countries that do not have an approved daughter stud book.

The New Forest Pony Association of Australia Inc does not provide registrations, but we do offer DNA testing facility for The New Forest Pony Breeding & Cattle Society in Australia, through the Australian Equine Genetics Research Center in Queensland.

As we do not currently have an approved daughter stud book in Australia all ponies may be registered directly with The New Forest Pony Breeding & Cattle Society for entry into The New Forest Pony Stud Book.

In addition some points to clarify are:-

• When submitting registrations from Australia, photographs showing the pony from front, back, left & right should be included, these need only be snapshots printed in colour on A4 sheet, to show type, conformation & markings.

• Ponies are not required to be branded, for registration into New Forest Stud Book but must have an electronic microchip implanted by a qualified veterinary surgeon when being first identified for a passport.

• Stud stallion owners must make a return of all registered mares served each season. No foal may be registered until this return or a covering certificate is received. NB Ponies sired by unlicensed entires are NOT eligible for the Stud Book.

• New Registrations foals, the passport needs to be issued before 6 months of age or prior to weaning. If it is not, then the pony must be DNA-tested parentage verified at a cost of $80 per pony (Please Click Here for more details), OR registered in the Unapproved Section of the Stud Book (The X Register).

• New Registrations, AI foals, should have already completed Veterinary Certificate of Insemination at time of insemination & the pony must be DNA-tested parentage verified for Pure Breds & DNA-tested paternity verified for First Cross & Part-Breds at a cost of $80 per pony (Please Click Here for more details).

• New Registrations of colts / stallions age 2 years & older must be accompanied by a completed Veterinary Report for stallion or registration will be in the Unapproved Section of the Stud Book (The X Register).

• New Registrations of geldings must be accompanied by a certificate of castration completed & signed by your vet or registration will be in the Unapproved Section of the Stud Book (The X Register).

• In 2002 The Australian Pony Stud Book Society provided a full set of Australian Pony Stud Book up to Volume 20, the last volume in print at the time. All New Forest Ponies Section 1 only, that were not already registered in The New Forest Pony Stud Book were accepted & resulting progeny is eligible for registration provided it fits the criteria. All Australian New Forest Ponies Section 2 are eligible for First Cross or Part Bred Registration.

Many Ponies in Australia are still dual registered in The New Forest Pony Stud Book & the Australian Pony Stud Book - New Forest Pony Section 1. Please refer to the APSB Website for registration requirements for their stud book.
